I myself have no experience with St. John's wort extract, because I suffer from depression.

Light, or its absence, is definitely the catalyst for a so-called winter depression.
St. John's wort increases the sensitivity to light, what does that mood. Therefore, one should not take too long under the tanning bed or sunbathing, if you take St. John's wort. The fact is sunburn.
Otherwise, it does help, definitely. But only against the "winter depression". Against "real" St. John's wort and depression can not do anything.
